DERBYSHIRE'S grandest stately home will be transformed into an imperial ice palace next Friday.

Chatsworth House will become a “skate-ly home” when it plays host to the world's most celebrated ice-dancing troupe for a performance of The Sleeping Beauty from next Friday, July 18, to Sunday, July 27.

The Imperial Ice Stars, featuring some of the world's best ice dancers, arrive at Chatsworth as part of their Treasure Houses tour and will stage a series of matinee and evening performances inside a specially-erected tented ice palace.

“This is the first time an undertaking of this scale has been seen at Chatsworth,” says Imperial Ice Stars marketing officer Marika Player.

“Not only will a real ice rink be constructed during the height of summer but a there will be a grand theatre big top housing 1,500 cushioned tiered seats, a bar and foyer area, bespoke carpet and chandeliers as befits such a sumptuous setting.”

The imposing structure will be 22 metres high, will require three miles of rope stitching and will take a team of 30 workers over 72 hours to build.

Chatsworth House spokesman Simon Seligman says: “We are delighted to bring this international troupe to Derbyshire.

“This is a perfect example of something world class that sits very well in this beautiful landscape. It will be an amazing and unique experience.”

The Imperial Ice Stars' performances follow successful Chatsworth appearances by artists such as Meatloaf, Jools Holland and Luciano Pavarotti.

Tickets, priced £15-£37.50, are available on 0871 230 7135 or online at www.seetickets.com.
